Dear Class of 2020,

On behalf of everyone at the Temple University School of Pharmacy, congratulations. You’re now a PharmD graduate.

All of you missed many of the experiences and traditions that you’d been looking forward to for four-plus years. You’ve also grown and changed in ways you couldn’t have, under normal circumstances. In many of your own words, despite the fear you’ve gained skills and work-life balance, self care and stress management. You’ve acknowledged your own exceptional courage, concern for others and adaptability. I thank you for showing us that perseverance conquers, even during a pandemic.

COVID-19 has changed the world in many uncertain ways. But, the experience has made you stronger. Your strength and preparedness will reflect in the contributions that you make as a healthcare professional. That the exceptional nature of this achievement inspired you, and push you again through other times of fear and hesitation, which you may face in your career and life. Please know, that my fellow administrators, your faculty and staff, and I promise to always be a resource for you. And also know that we’re already very excited to witness all the great things that is going to come from this unforgettable Class of 2020.

I am Marvin Mandel, president of the School of Pharmacy Alumni Association.

Congratulations to the Class of 2020. Even though the last couple of months of your pharmacy education were spent under the most unusual conditions, you have graduated and are now pharmacists.

For decades, pharmacy has been the most trusted profession. And now in these times of pandemic, healthcare in general—including pharmacy—is recognized as one of the most respected careers. People everywhere are showing their appreciation. You can be proud of your chosen profession and you can be just as proud of the university in which you chose to receive your education.

Temple University has one of the best schools of pharmacy in the country and for many years it has above-average and NAPLEX pass rates. Again, be proud; be Temple Proud.

You are also now an alum and are automatically a member of the School of Pharmacy Alumni Association—one of the best alumni associations at Temple. Many of you will find that the association is a valuable resource and will want to give back to the university by being active in it.  You are able to attend the meetings of its Board of Directors and serve on its committees. You can even run for election as a member of the board and serve as the chair of one of the committees, helping to decide the direction that this great association takes. For more information, please contact Katie Battista who serves as the liaison between the school and the alumni association. I look forward to seeing you at a board meeting.
